Save Fruit Pie The Magician!

Fruit Pie The Magician has been removed from the Hostess Fruit Pie wrappers. This is really a shame.

Fruit Pie The Magician was created in 1973 by artist Don Duga to represent Hostess Fruit Pies. Hostess snack cakes had some great characters back in the '70s like Twinkie The Kid, King Ding Dong, Captain Cup Cake, Chief Big Wheels and more. Together, those characters made some memorable commercials.

Here's one of the last salvaged Fruit Pie wrappers with the Magician himself on it.

Check out the website to Save Fruit Pie The Magician. Maybe we can complain enough to get Hostess to bring him back.

As of 2006, the new Fruit Pie wrappers have a new design, and have just lost their magic.

Here's a t-shirt iron-on from 1981.

More talk about Hostess characters coming in the future...

  1. How often are the Hostess Cakes motion displays found? I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid in the 70's and I'm jonesing for a look at the spinning Ho Ho's logo!

  2. Toycoon -- I've hardly ever seen any of them, usually on eBay.

    Anyone know more about these??

  3. Its very sad that Fruit Pie The Magician is gone. Sadly, Hostess Fruit Pies seem to be increasingly hard to find, at least in my area. Possibly becasue of today's "health concious" society, (and lets face it: the things are loaded with fat) but there do seem to be plenty of the imatation brands avaliable (which arn't nearly as tasty!) Overall, Hostess Fruit Pies are still jsut as delicious, but I still mourn the loss of Fruit Pie The Magician! He was by far my favorite Hostess charecter.
